-FDA RFFM Grant Program
The National Environmental Health Association () and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) work in partnership to administer the -FDA Retail Flexible Funding Model (RFFM) Grant Program. The program provides funding to State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) retail food regulatory agencies as they advance conformance with the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards (Retail Program Standards). FDA is utilizing ’s strengths to assist SLTT retail food programs in their efforts to reduce the occurrence of foodborne illness risk factors and implement and attain conformance with the Retail Program Standards.

Grant Year 2026-27 (GY 2026-27) Applications
The -FDA RFFM Grant Portal will open for one-year grant applications for GY 2026-27 on January 5, 2026, and will remain open until February 12, 2026.
SLTT retail food regulatory agencies can apply for a base grant through Track 1 or Track 2 with up to two optional add-ons (Mentorship/Mentee and Training). Track 2 applications also have the option to apply for a Mentorship/Mentor grant instead of choosing the Mentorship/Mentee option in the base grant application.
Current Track 3 grantees can apply for a grant with two options (Mentorship/Mentee and Training) and also have the option to apply for a Mentorship/Mentor grant instead of choosing the Mentorship/Mentee option.

GY 2026-27 Timeline (More Details Coming Soon)

- January 22, 2026 at 1-2 pm ET: RFFM Applicant Webinar |
- February 12, 2026: RFFM grant portal closes, proposals due by 8pm ET.
- March 2026: Award notices sent.
- April 1, 2026: Project period begins for GY 2026-27!

Current Grant Year (GY 2025-26) Awards
Thank you to our GY 2025-26 awardees! This year, 313 retail food regulatory programs were awarded funds to work on 606 projects! Key dates for the 2025-26 award year are below.
- April 1, 2025: Project period began for GY 2025-26.
- October 15, 2025: Interim Progress Reports were due.
- March 31, 2026: Project period ends for 1-year awards.
- May 15, 2026: Final Progress Reports for 1-year awards and Annual Progress Reports for 3-year awards due.
